Ales Hemsky Should Be Ashamed To Wear An Oilers Jersey

Ales Hemsky is the most talented player to suit up for the Oilers since Messier departed for the New York Rangers back in the early 90s. However, talent does not necessarily equal results, and chronic underachiever Ales Hemsky is a perfect example how all the skill in the world isn’t enough to make a great hockey player.

The Edmonton Oilers are on life support in the NHL’s Western Conference playoff race. At the most crucial time of the season they have started to stumble, allowing teams like Anaheim, St. Louis and Nashville to overtake them. Though many point the finger of blame on long time Oilers’ coach Craig MacTavish in my opinion the onus has to be on the players. They are the ones who go out onto the ice and need to perform at a high level every night. If they cannot dig down and find the necessary drive to compete in these games then they are the ones that should shoulder the blame.

When the game and the season are on the line the players who

Upon Arrival, the unofficial CGI mascot “Oil Rigger Guy” guides the Logo into the building where an Oil Derrick he’s constructing. This CGI video, was Combined with video montages of the Edmonton Oilers players to make a nice little intro that really didn’t make any sense. But whatever, I kind of miss these creative animations – now they just have the players standing around. NOTICE: I Did not create this video. From The Oilers To The Titans – The Journey Of The Tennessee Titans

Originally a charter member of the American Football League (AFL), the Tennessee Titans was previously known as the Huston Oilers, based in Houston, Texas. They began playing in 1960 and won two AFL championships, before the AFL merged with the National Football League (NFL) and became collectively known as the NFL. They are currently a member of the American Football Conference (AFC) South Division in the NFL. In 1997, the Oilers relocated to the state of Tennessee, playing in Memphis for the first season and then moved to Nashville. For their first two seasons in Tennessee, they were known as the Tennessee Oilers and then in 1999, changed their name to the Titans.

AFL success

In their first season playing in the AFL, they won the first ever AFL championship, and won it again a year later. Wally Lemm, their head coach during that time led a strong offense. The Oilers at that time had such a potent offense that half of the starting

Oil, Oil, Everywhere? so let’s all change the name! (Should the Edmonton Oilers be concerned about their name?)

Oil, Oil, Everywhere? so let’s all change the name! (Should the Edmonton Oilers be concerned about their name?)

Oil was founded in Edmonton…that’s a given.

It’s understandable that the franchise, formed in 1971, would like to honor its roots by showcasing its city’s heritage, but with the recent events that have happened in the media, it hasn’t bowed well for the club (thank you BP for hurting them like this).  Thus I came up with an idea…why not rename the team?!?!?

It’s certainly not unheard of.  Several professional franchises have done it in the past.!  The Phoenix Cardinals did it back in 1994, when they decided to include the whole state in on the party and changed to the Arizona Cardinals.  That franchise alone is full of name changes!  In fact,  the nickname of Cardinals was adopted after the team started wearing uniforms inherited from the University of Chicago that were a faded maroon color. The reddish uniforms prompted then owner Charlie O’Brien to label them as “Cardinal Red”, thus the Cardinals moniker was coined.

Buy Carolina Hurricane Tickets to Watch the Champions

The team was established in 1972 and was called the New England Whalers. Howard Baldwin, Godfrey Wood, William Barned and John Coburn founded the team. The team won their first Stanley Cup in 2005-06. They are expected to make a great win this season as well. Carolina Hurricane tickets will be difficult to get unless booked in advance.

Some Great Games

In 1972 the Whalers played for the first time out of Boston. The first season saw a great win for the Whalers. They won the WHA’s Avco World Trophy that year. In 1975 the team moved to the Hartford Civic Center. The team was made a part of the NHL in 1979 and their name was changed to Hartford Whalers. They did not do very well and finished fourth in Norris Division. The Whalers had a tough time getting playoffs in the next five years. Finally victory was on their side in 1986 when they won over the Quebec Nordiques.

In July 1997 the Whalers moved to research Triangle

Edmonton Oilers Hockey Trivia of the 1980s

In the mid to late 1980s, from 1984-1989, the Edmonton Oilers won 4 out of 5 Stanley Cups. They were led by The Great One’s Wayne Gretzky. Joining Gretzky were many other great players including Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, Jari Kurri, Kevin Lowe, Glenn Anderson, and Grant Fuhr.

The Oilers were absolutely dominant as they won the Cup in 1984, 1985, 1987, and 1988. Gretzky won the Art Ross award 7 straight times. He also won many Hart Trophies. He broke the record for most assists and most points in a season. He would reset the assists record 3 more times and the record for most points once more.

It was amazing to watch the Edmonton Oilers as they skated circles around their competition during their dominant years. The Oilers came very close to beating the Calgary Flames in 1986. Had they done that, they may very well have won the Cup that year too.

The Oilers lost to the Flames in a very competitive 7 game series. In
