How to Improve Your Hockey skills

Skates that are used in hockey are made to withstand much more abuse than those used in figure skating, making them more expensive and more bulky. Besides is not only thing that is different between these two types of skates. People sometimes overlook the fact that there are real players out there, who play for the love of the game and the intellectual challenge that comes with it.A few will do their goalie stretches plus some hand eye reaction/juggling work as well. It is this type of static warm-up that sabotages goalies before they hit the ice. When you are taking the slap shot you want to hit the ice between your legs, lean into it, and don’t forget weight transfer. This will load your stick with a lot of flex. Many hockey enthusiasts of all levels have much better slap shots and wrist shots than they had years ago due to the popularity of composite hockey sticks. And a Child Shall Lead Them

Rookie goaltenders have had success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs before – most notably with Ken Dryden in 1971 and Patrick Roy in 1986, both leading the Montreal Canadiens to the Cup – but never before has a crop of  rookie goalies dominated the playoffs like they have this season.

Of the five remaining teams in this year’s playoffs, three are led by rookie goalies and another by a first-year starter.  Carolina’s Cam Ward, Buffalo’s Ryan Miller, Anaheim’s Ilya Bryzgalov, and San Jose’s Vesa Toskala have all enjoyed incredible playoff success thus far.

Seven-year veteran Dwayne Roloson of the Edmonton Oilers, who was acquired in a mid-season trade with the Minnesota Wild, is the only experienced goaltender left.  I don’t think anyone would have predicted that, especially with the presence of such big-name goalies as Martin Brodeur and Miikka Kiprusoff, and other veteran backstops or  NHL powerhouses like Detroit’s Manny

Betting frenzy this weekend!

Betting frenzy this weekend!

If your looking for wagering action this weekend, it doesn’t get much better then this as the World Cup of soccer, the Belmont Stakes, NBA, NHL, MLB, PGA and NASCAR are all front and center.

In Germany there will be 12 stadiums, hosting 64 games that will put 3 million derrieres in the seat and the host country tackles Costa Rica on day one. Staggering numbers reveal 1.5 BILLION people will watch the opening match and 35 BILLION will take in the tournament and wagering outlets will be staffed to the maximum.

The Belmont Stakes from New York will wrap up a disappointing Triple Crown series that gave us the wonder horse Barbaro and then shattered our dreams with a freakish injury. I have been touting Bon & John all spring and like him in an exacter with Steppenwolfer that was named after the 70′s rock band Steppenwolf.

Last night the Dallas Mavericks got subpar scoring games from stars Dirk Nowitzkie and Josh Howard, but Jason Terry lit the

Nhl 2008-09 Western Conference Preview

The Detroit Red Wings ran away from the pack last season to again win the President’s trophy and followed up with a Cup win. The power is clearly in the West in the NHL. Here is how the West shapes up heading into the 2008-09 campaign

The Division Winners:

1. Detroit Red Wings – The defending cup champions win the Central, the West, and the Presidents Trophy again. As hard as it is to believe, the Wings actually got better this summer acquiring prize free agent Marian Hossa. Ty Conklin was also added to back up starting goalie Chris Osgood. The only notable loss from the Cup winning team is future hall of famer Dominik Hasek, who was relegated to back up duty last season. The Wings will be led by Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk with Nicklas Lidstrom providing support from the blue line. The supporting cast is as good as any team in history. The Stanley Cup hangover, the Pacific powerhouses and aging stars

Hockey betting fans are definitely in for a feast this Tuesday night. The match would be played at the United Center.

The Chicago Blackhawks would be going into this game on a high note after a 3-0 win over Detroit Red Wings. Here’s some news for hockey betting fans, Chicago Blackhawks won both the previous encounters against San Jose Sharks in November. While the first game was won by Chicago Blackhawks 4-3, the second game was won 7-2.  The game would be exciting for both general viewers and hockey betting fans as well, since San Jose Sharks have put behind their recent loosing streak and registered a thumping win over Anaheim Ducks and pulled off a 4-2 win over the Stars in Dallas. Nhl History: New York Rangers

The New York Rangers were formed on the heels of the success of another New York hockey team, the New York Americans of the NHL.  The Americans had proven that hockey could be successful in New York, leading Madison Square Garden president G.I. “Tex” Rickard to want to bring another team into the Garden.

The team was initially known as the New York Giants, but the media referred to them as “Tex’s Rangers.”  Rickard took the name and ran with it, formally adopting it and placing on the team’s uniforms.

The Rangers enjoyed great success in their early years.  They won Stanley Cups in each decade from the 20s to the 40s, winning three in all.

In 1942, the New York Americans folded, making the Rangers the only hockey team in New York.  From 1942 until 1967, the Rangers were one of six teams left in the NHL.  The six teams would be forever known as the “Original Six.”

The Rangers were not very successful during the Original Six era.

Nhl Hockey: Canucks At Blackhawks – 8:30Pm Est

The Vancouver Canucks and the Chicago Blackhawks will both be trying to pick up a win on Friday night at 8:30pm EST when they battle at the United Center in a game that can be seen on RSNP and CSNC television. NHL odds have the Blackhawks listed as 155-moneyline favorites versus the Canucks, while the game’s total is sitting at 5.5 OVER -110.

Ryan Kesler potted two goals to help the Canucks double the Detroit Red Wings 6-3 on Wednesday night as +140 underdogs in NHL odds. That game’s nine goals sailed OVER the posted over/under of 5.5 at online sportsbooks. Alex Burrows, Kyle Wellwood, Sami Salo, and Mikael Samuelsson added singles. It was a heros welcome in Vancouver as silver medal winner Ryan Kesler scored twice and the gold medal winning goalie Roberto Luongo made 28 saves to lift the Canucks to their second straight win.

“It was special. I always cherish playing in front of friends and family,” said Kesler after the game. Heading

Edmonton Oiler Coach and Player Reaction after Oilers 4-3 Loss to the Predators on 3-2-10 at the Bridgestone Arena
Video Rating: 0 / 5

Mike Grier, First American Born Black NHL Player

It is well known that Willie O’Ree of the 1958 Boston Bruins was the first National Hockey League player of African descent. But, except for seven games that Val James played for Buffalo in 1981, it wasn’t until Mike Grier played for Edmonton, Washington and San Jose from 1996 through today that an African American player was able to have a meaningful career in the NHL.

Grier came from a football family. His father, Bobby Grier is a former NFL running back coach and current Associate Director of Pro Scouting for the Houston Texans. His brother Chris scouts for the Miami Dolphins and his uncle is Rosie Grier, a star defensive tackle for the New York Giants and Los Angeles Rams in the 1950s and 1960s.

Mike Grier was born in Detroit, but it was a move to Boston at age three that he told Puck Prospectus set his hockey career in motion.

”My family was right in the inner city there (Detroit), so I don’t know if I would have
